About the Award:

The Wesley L. McDonald Distinguished Statesman and Stateswoman of Aviation Award was established on October 16, 1954, by the Board of Directors of the National Aeronautic Association. The purpose of the award is to honor outstanding living Americans who, by their efforts over an extended period of years, have made contributions of significant value to aeronautics and have reflected credit upon America and themselves.

Nomination Guidelines for the Wesley L. McDonald Distinguished Statesman and Stateswoman of Aviation Award:

Please follow these guidelines when submitting a nomination for NAA’s Wesley L. McDonald Distinguished Statesman and Stateswoman of Aviation Award. Nominations that do not fall within the specifications listed below may not be considered during the selection process.

Criteria:

Nominees should

  • Be a living citizen of the United States who, for at least 25 years, has been actively identified with aeronautics and has made contributions of significant value to aeronautics;
  • Have exhibited qualities of patriotism, integrity, and moral courage worthy of emulation;
  • Be well and favorably known as a person of ability and character.

Nomination Format:

The nomination must be submitted:

  • in PDF format;
  • is limited to three (3) pages, not including citation:
    • may select page layout, size, and font type;
    • attrachments, reprints of articles, images, etc. must be included the three pages;
    • citation may be placed on a fourth page.
  • nomination must include:
    • name of person(s) making the nomination, including address, telephone number, and e-mail address;
    • name of nominee(s), including address, telephone number, and e-mail address.

All nomination materials will become the property of NAA.

The body of the nomination should include information justifying why the nominee is worthy of this award; give complete and concise details with such background information as considered pertinent, along with any other relevant information that would assist the Selection Committee in determining the worthiness of the nominee with particular attention to the “Criteria” above.

Citation:

A formal statement in 30 words or less that captures the essence of the achievement for which the nominee’s name has been submitted.

Deadline:

All nominations must be received between Mar 1 and June 1 of the nomination year (if June 1 falls on a weekend or holiday, the deadline moves to the NEXT business day); nominations received after the deadline will not be accepted. All nominations must be emailed as a PDF to [email protected] with “Statesman/Stateswoman Nomination” in the subject line.

Presentation:

The award is presented at an appropriate ceremony as determined by the President of the National Aeronautic Association.
