The NAA Henderson Trophy

In 1960, the NAA established the Henderson Trophy to honor Clifford W. Henderson.

Henderson was not only a driving force behind the development of Los Angeles International Airport but also the managing director of the National Air Races from 1928 to 1939, where he originated the concept and secured sponsorship for the Bendix Trophy Race, Thompson Trophy Classic, and Powder Puff Derby.

Criteria:

The Henderson Trophy recognizes a living U.S. citizen, team of U.S. citizens, or U.S. organization whose vision, leadership, or skill has made a significant and lasting contribution to the promotion and advancement of aerospace in the United States.

Selection:

A deserving nominee will be put forth annually by the President of the NAA to the Executive Committee for confirmation by majority vote.

  • Nominees must be either U.S. citizens or U.S. organizations.
  • The President of the National Aeronautic Association will present the Henderson Trophy at an appropriate ceremony.
  • The awardee will be notified within three business days of selection. The NAA will provide ample travel time, and if the awardee chooses not to attend or cannot attend the awards ceremony, the NAA may ship the award. Shipping and handling fees will apply.
