The Collier Dinner is held annually in early May to recognize the recipient of the Robert J. Collier Trophy of the previous year. The award is "for the greatest achievement in aeronautics or astronautics in America, with respect to improving the performance, efficiency, and safety of air or space vehicles, the value of which has been thoroughly demonstrated by actual use during the preceding year." The 8 foot high Collier Trophy is brought from the National Air and Space Museum to this event.
